Meta Keywords Tag

The importance of Meta Keywords tag on the web pages has always lead to discussions in the SEO teams with lot of Search Optimizers discounting the importance of Meta Keywords Tag in Search Ranking.  This holds to be true according to a recent answer to the question “Does Google ever use the “keywords” meta tag in its web search ranking? on the Official Google Webmaster Central blog

Does Google ever use the “keywords” meta tag in its web search ranking? :

” In a word, no. Google does sell a Google Search Appliance, and that product has the ability to match meta tags, which could include the keywords meta tag. But that’s an enterprise search appliance that is completely separate from our main web search. Our web search (the well-known search at Google.com that hundreds of millions of people use each day) disregards keyword metatags completely. They simply don’t have any effect in our search ranking at present.”

Now it becomes clear to SEO Teams that Keywords is no more an important meta tag and the efforts that the SEO team puts to build those keywords should be avoided. Instead of the meta keyword tags teams should focus on building the tags for the page which will work as landing pages and strenghten the internal linking to the pages.
